Everyone wants high-performing teams.
Very few are high-performing leaders who know how to lead them.
I spent years studying leadership, conflict resolution, human behaviour, mindset, performance and emotional intelligence.
It was uncomfortable work.
The kind of work that changes the way you think, communicate, make decisions and lead.
I started when I was 18.
That didn't mean working 24/7 and sacrificing what was important to me.
It meant working on the things that moved me, my career and the people around me forward.
It taught me skills that I systemised and took thousands of hours to learn and implement:
âś…How to lead myself and build high-performing teams.
âś…How to resolve conflict effectively.
âś…How to let go of perfection.
âś…How to perform at your best under pressure.
These may not sound like a big deal.
But if the foundations aren't in place, the big things become much harder to achieve.
The problem is, those foundations aren't the things many law firms use to assess performance.
They often decide who their high performers are by looking at who:
• Meets budget.
• Delivers strong technical work.
• Produces high output.
• Works long hours.
• Is always responsive.
• Doesn't need constant supervision.
Those are high-achievement metrics.
Not high-performance metrics.
And when leaders confuse the two, the warning signs are easy to miss.
Their best lawyers disengage.
Go quiet.
Leave.
Then it's easier to call it a people problem than a leadership problem.
That's exactly what we'll be working through in Pressure Tested this Wednesday, 1 July 2026, 8 am AEST.
It's for barristers and senior lawyers who want to stop measuring performance by output and start building the standards, behaviours and trust that create high-performing teams.
