Knowledge Isn't Power, Until Its Applied ...Dale Carnegie
"This is how we've always done it - its best."
Sound familiar?
Is it worth asking - do you feel content with accumulating 'new' information (outside of custom or convention) about conflict resolution (mediation, workplace), leadership, and professional or personal skills but aren't prepared to take different action on 'new' information and, as a result ....accept the status quo?
It is common for many to focus solely on acquiring knowledge without taking any further action.
This is a pattern I was familiar with in my early life.
From about 18 years of age, I started to accumulate a head full of knowledge by reading 1000s of books on communication, mindset, personalities, and anger (any human issues).
I aspired to improve myself and boost my self-confidence while overcoming my depression. I aimed to enhance my skills and abilities to deal with inner conflicts and negative thought patterns.
I wanted to feel better by accumulating knowledge, thinking that knowledge alone would improve my overall well-being and help me lead more confidently.
The 1000s of books I read had some really valuable information in them. If I had applied 10% of what I learned, I would have saved myself years of angst and struggle.
This lesson I learned the hard way: I had collected tonnes of knowledge, AND all of the knowledge was of no real value to me - without me taking brave action.
I had to STOP focusing on accumulating knowledge and START focusing on taking brave action with knowledge. I had to be more courageous.
When I took brave action, I experienced a vast transformation that impacted my personal growth and life by taking action in my early 30s. However, I regret spending 15 years of my life solely on accumulating knowledge, as it ultimately had no impact.
To take courageous action with a changed mindset, I learned (through action) that it's OK to fail and make mistakes; I don't have to try to be perfect (illusion).
When I took different, brave steps, I soon realised I had learned some BIG lessons from making these mistakes. I learned more quickly by taking action and making mistakes than I would have learned from accumulating more knowledge.
I believe it's time to stop assuming 'this is how it's always been done - is best".
We need to learn and START to take different actions to understand what genuinely works, personally and professionally, through different approaches.
The world is filled with abundant knowledge, yet true wisdom remains scarce.
My personal experience is one of the significant motivators for why I do what I do.... empower people to take brave 'steps"' using 'proven different ideas' (mediation, coaching and consulting) that help them attain their professional and personal goals to live their best lives!
