Double Your Success With These 3 Tips
Here's the skill that turns good lawyers into trusted leaders: staying calm when someone disagrees with you.
Try these three simple tips right away:
1. Don't Get Mad 😤
Take a deep breath when others say something that upsets you or they disagree with you. Remember, fighting about who's right doesn't solve problems. The most influential leaders - lead conversation and aren't the loudest - they're the calmest and most curious.
2. Ask More Questions 🤔
Instead of pushing your agenda and arguing, "Im right", say, "Tell me why you think/behave like that." This isn't giving up—focusing on the other person's perspective, emotions, actions, and body language is brilliant! You'll learn what they're worried about while showing everyone you're confident enough to listen, and you don't lower your position by using low-level tactics to persuade— using "because "I'm right,t and I said so."
3. Stay Cool When Others Don't 🧊
When others get angry, pushy, and aggressive, your calmness becomes your superpower. Everyone in the room will look to you as the grown-up leader. This isn't a weakness—it's being influential.
Trusted legal leaders know this truth:
Knowing the law gets you in the door - it's expected when you're at the negotiation table.
Staying calm under pressure makes you a leader. ⚖️
When others lose their cool, the calm lawyer becomes the leader everyone trusts. 💪
