The 7 Steps To Effective Pre-Mediations.

Stop trying to resolve conflict on the day (mediation or workplace conflict).
Start solving problems at pre-mediations.
Conflict resolution (mediation or workplace dispute resolution) often gets a bad rap because of the mediator's lack of abilities or commitment or the party's behaviours and communication as they try to convince each other they are 'right.'
But that's not how the best do it.
Mediators and conflict resolvers solve problems. Mediators set the tone and build confidence and competence at a pre-mediation to make the conflict resolution event more successful.
Here are seven things that your mediator needs to do in pre-mediation
âś… Schedule a 30-minute Zoom meeting with lawyers and barristers (and 1.5-hour Zoom meetings with family law clients) separately BEFORE the day of mediation/workplace conflict resolution
âś… Discover where they are at and what future success means (not only legal issues)
âś… Uncover how each person will contribute/show up in the process
âś… Unearth the process and the final result they are seeking. Why?
âś… What hurdles (human and legal) do they face that they believe stand in the way of reaching their goals?
âś… Help people prepare to leverage success without compromising their well-being or relationships.
âś… Share expectations, including the tone/culture, so that everyone can perform at their best.
You know the mediator is doing it right when you feel more competent and confident, and clients want to work with you, valuing your judgment in resolving their conflicts and choosing that mediator.
Remember, conflict resolution starts with effective pre-mediations.
