Whats Your Decision?

Last Monday, my twin sister walked out of her office at a mid-tier accounting firm—for the last time.
She resigned after four months at a job, negatively impacting her confidence.
âBullying.
âMicromanagement.
âFixed mindset: relentless perfectionism-and-blame culture.
âPoor and backstabbing communication (and more...)
Every day, she felt anxious, as if she were under constant attack.
She replayed her day every night, wondering if she was the problem.
She wasn't
She questioned her skills and competence over and over.
Even though she is qualified and experienced as an:
- accountant
- senior bookkeeper
- trainer and assessor in leadership and management, accounting and health administration
- and a cycling coach đ she began to second-guess and doubt herself seriously.
She knew and applied leadership skills - so she didn't stay silent.
She bravely communicated her concerns directly and openly to the leaders.
They dismissed her, ignored her, and marginalized her.
They made her the problem—repeatedly.
They knew what was happening.
Other employees had lodged formal complaints about the same issues.
Some had refused to work in the department with the main bully culprit.
Staff turnover was a revolving door.
HR had even voiced concerns about employee retention to her.
Yet, these leaders stood by and promoted the bully, prioritizing their comfort and status quo over the well-being of their other employees.
They even discussed "difficult behaviours" they wanted to change with my sister during her interview, saying they wanted her to contribute her skills to the solution.
But it was easy for the leaders to speak about issues.
But in reality, they didn't want to change anything.
- to make different choices and make hard decisions
- to lead differently.
So, my sister made a brave decision.
She left.
No backup job.
No safety net.
Just a belief that her well-being and confidence were worth more than staying in a toxic environment.
I know exactly how she feels. I've been there too.
As a barrister, I have been bullied.
I know how it can erode your confidence, how you start questioning your every move, your worth, and your skills.
This is why I do what I do.
