With 3+ PQE barristers and lawyers, you already have legal experience.

That isn’t the only constraint anymore.

What gets tested is how you handle pressure when the room changes direction.

A lawyer from the Mediation Mastery workshop said she didn’t need better legal arguments.

She needed to:
Stay grounded when emotion rises (hers and others)
Handle power imbalances without losing trust
Keep the conversation constructive

Because she’d seen what actually happened (the old way of conflict resolution);
❌The other side gets forceful
❌Clients’ and counterparts' emotions rise and become unmanaged
❌Posturing, titles, or seniority shift the power dynamics in the room
❌"Knowing it all" replaces problem-solving
❌Anxiety and emotions drive decisions

And suddenly, being "legally right" doesn’t carry influence.

What most lawyers do next:
- Explain their position harder
- Get frustrated and show it.
- Try to force movement and blame the other side.

Then:
Positions harden
People want to save face
Offers slow → deadlock → fail.

Not a legal skills problem.
A habit problem.

They want different results without reviewing what they did.
They want improvement without discomfort.

You cannot improve what you refuse to examine.
You cannot get different results from using the same habits.

If replaying your last mediation feels uncomfortable, that’s probably the useful part.

What actually works in high-performance mediating:
âś…Recognise and address emotions (yours and others)
âś…Speak so people can process, not react
âś…Keep it future-focused
âś…Show you understand the pressures in the room
âś… Be clear on what you want to achieve
âś…Prepare beyond the law.

Then:
People adjust
Information is processed because emotion isn’t running the room
New offers become considered and possible
Power imbalances stop being an issue.
Communication is about influence, not proving you're right.

Under pressure, you don’t rise to the occasion.
You fall to the level of your habits.

The Mediation Mastery case study program is about building those habits.

If you’re ready to examine your own performance instead of blaming the room, this is your next step.
