Confidence, Not Condescension: The Shift Law Needs to Build Trust
Law rewards sharp legal minds and louder voices.
But being loud, dismissive, or putting people down doesn't create better outcomes — it just creates distance.
We've' normalised it.
The quick put-down.
The dismissal of anything different from "the traditional way."
The eye-roll at something new.
It looks powerful.
It sounds 'confident'.
And studies have found that "know-it-all" behaviours and dismissive communication are among the biggest factors that damage trust in law.
And when trust drops, so do outcomes.
But maturity in the profession means knowing you no longer want to be constantly around:
❌ drama
❌ unnecessary stress
❌ escalating conflict
You get to choose —will it be respect over one-upmanship, or response over reaction?
Because I want you to know, influence isn't about proving you're better than everyone else.
âś… It's about how you say what you want to say - and making it move people and outcomes.
âś… It's clarity under pressure.
âś… It's' strategy over ego.
High-performance communication takes more courage than dismissal, loudness, or put-downs.
It asks you to:
⚡ Hold yourself and people to high standards with respect, even when it's unpopular.
🧠Ask more questions, be curious before making assumptions or creating stories.
đź’¬ Practise how you'll show up when others perform for attention.
I've seen both sides of it.
I've lived both sides of it.
I've studied human behaviour my whole life — then became a barrister and mediator, and was certified as an emotional and high-performance coach + advisor — and I still have to practise the habits law doesn't always reward, but that drive the best results.
Knowledge is the starting point.
Applying it — especially when it's uncomfortable — is where high performance and best outcomes merge.
Everything changed when I stopped trying to prove I was "perfect"
and focused on communicating in a way that actually gets results.
P.S. I'm looking to work with a small group of lawyers and barristers in High Performance Lawyers, starting 12 November 2025.
Here's who I'm looking for:
👉 You're a lawyer or barrister with more than 2 years'' post-qualification experience.
👉 You want to consistently perform at your best in mediations, high-stakes rooms, and difficult conversations — influencing 75% of outcomes without the usual legal performance pressure, worrying you got something wrong, or 2 a.m. replays.
👉 You can commit 1.5 hours a week from the week commencing 12 November 2025.
👉 You're open to feedback, coaching, and advice and willing to try new ways of operating — professionally and personally.
👉 You want my personal help to move past whatever's in your way right now — fast.
If that's you, email me at [email protected] and say "I'm in" in the subject line, and I'll give you all the details.
I'll be choosing the group over the next couple of weeks.
Ready to put this into practice?
